Head-Royce is a nationally recognized K-12 independent school situated in the hills of Oakland, California. Our mission is to inspire a lifelong love of learning with a focus on scholarship, diversity, and citizenship.  The remarkable and innovative thinking launched by Anna Head over 130 years ago, remains a source of pride and is the core of Head-Royce School today. We transformed into an independent, co-educational, K-12 school in the 1970s, and that spirit of inquiry and innovation remains infused in our culture. If you visit our campus you will see this dynamic and vibrant learning center in action. From innovation centers, internships, and integrated technology, to life skills classes, service learning, cross-divisional buddies, and small advising groups, we are equally dedicated to educational excellence and social-emotional learning.   At our heart, we are a community of passionate educators and learners, all sharing a deep commitment to creating lifelong learners who will be prepared to lead with joy and compassion. We enroll a diverse student body of approximately 875 talented and ambitious learners. Founded in 1887, Head-Royce is an independent, non-denominational, co-educational, college-preparatory, K-12 school, which offers a challenging educational program to educate the whole child.
