A car donation to STAND! For Families Free of Violence is a simple way to support their important work to end the cycle of violence in homes among families of all ethnic and economic groups. The organization seeks to intervene as early as possible in the lives of individuals plagued by unstable environments. Clients come from experiences ranging from children needing shelter from the abuse of foster parents to adults who lack the finances or the emotional strength to detach from abusers. Following values such as integrity, compassion and accountability, STAND! educates youth leaders, operates an emergency shelter and takes calls 24-hours-a-day on a community hotline. Staff members lead discussion groups, educating young men and women about healthy relationships, and offering workshops to mothers and fathers to increase their parenting skills. In one year, STAND! gave support services to 230 caregivers who are providing safe homes for child-relatives coming from violent homes. There were more than 2,300 support group sessions to help those healing from trauma and 1,600 adults and youth attended presentations about violence prevention.
